“I came upon a doctor who appeared in quite poor health. I said, ‘There’s nothing that I can do for you that you can’t do for yourself.’ He said, ‘Oh yes you can. Just hold my hand. I think that that would help.’ So I sat with him a while then I asked him how he felt. He said, ‘I think I’m cured.'”

Today was the last home repair day of the the PV West Virginia Summer program, always a bittersweet day. Since it was the last day, we wrapped up the two sites that we have been working on this past week. The site in Cabin Creek now has a finished ramp and the roof was fixed in the back. The home owners were thrilled, but probably not as thrilled as the volunteers who were able to spend time with each day.

The site in Oceana also wrapped up. The porch looks beautiful and the roof should keep the family safe and dry. Today the volunteers did a fantastic job hanging the gutter and putting the EPDM roofing surface on the new roof. Everything is all ready for the new arrival on Monday.

We also had a crew who helped to bring donated items for back to school from the St. Vincent DePaul warehouse to the Itmann Food Bank for distribution next month. There was so much that they had to make several van trips.

The final site of the day was the Council on Aging/St. Vincent DePaul combo site. A lot of great visiting was done at COA and many hands made for lighter work at SVDP.

Dinner tonight was a fantastic mix of spaghetti and meatballs and lots of leftovers in various combinations. It was a great and satisfying meal after a long day.

For reflection tonight we reflected on the artwork on the wall in The Way depicting Jesus and Peter. Volunteers shared stories from both West Virginia and from home about instances when they were Jesus and when they were Peter.
