Another great day sy Peace Camp. We picked up a few new kids, so our totals are now into the 40’s. Starting the week we only had 15 registered, so we are estatic with these numbers. We are continually impressed by the kids. They are attentive, interested and engaged. We really couldn’t ask for a better group of kids.

We have also been blessed with a great group of PVs. We have a core group that have been there day in and day out, but we are also being reinforced by PVs coming in for a day here and a day there. The strength of the PV Community continues to amaze and inspire us!

Today after camp we decided to take a trip to a Brooklyn landmark, Coney Island. We walked on the boardwalk, wandered through Luna Park and some brave PVs even rode on the famed Steeplechase ride. Really, a great day.

A reminder, after the week we will be posting more pictures from the week. Right now we have been limited to just using cell phone pictures.

Day two of Peace Camp… Another wonderful day with the kids at camp. They are all so receptive to the volunteers and seem to be having a great time. This year the St. Johns community is sponsoring a camp in the morning, feeding the kids lunch and then sending them to us. It has been a great collaboration so far. The DRE was sharing with us that week long camps in their neighborhood are usually about $400, but because we have been able to team up together, we are able to offer the kids the same experience for free! Living out the PV Mission…serving the least, the last and the left out.

PEACE Camp started today!!! We had a wonderful group of kids to kick off the week in Bedford Stuyvesant. This summer the campers will be going on a journey learning about other cultures. To prepare for their journey the kids made cereal box suitcases and passports to start their journey. Each day the campers will hear a fable about peace and then learn about the country of origin, tying in a couple of crafts from the region as well. Each of the different age groups are doing different countries each day, but by weeks end all will have “traveled” to each country. We will posting pictures each day, so please check in and see what we have been up to.
