Seattle Live With Passion
This past Friday, the Seattle area held its LWP on a beautiful night in the Pacific Northwest. We had a wonderful turnout of friends, family and the PVs that were in town for the Seattle PV program. There was wonderful food, conversation, bubbles and of course, a little pickle-ball. (For those unfamiliar with pickle-ball, it is like playing life-size ping pong on a small tennis court.) Thank you to everyone who came and for your support of the PV Volunteers!

Final Day in Seattle
The morning started like every other one this week with plenty of sunshine. After breakfast we headed to work at Westside Baby. Westside Baby is an organizations that provides all things baby related to the community. It is quite an impressive organization. Our task for the day was to dismantle car seats that could not be distributed again, that the different parts could be recycled and not fill up the landfill. Each car seat offered its own unique challenge to take apart. The mountain of plastic by the end of the day was reminiscent of Mt. Rainer!
After we left Westside Baby we made a stop at the Ballard Locks. Our arrival coincided perfectly with a load of boats heading through, so we got to see the whole process of how the locks work. Unfortunately there were no fish in the fish ladder underneath the locks. After the tour of the locks, we found a nice sunny spot in the garden and had our closing prayer service, reflecting on the experiences of the week.
We finished up the week up in Edmonds for the Seattle “Live with Passion” Potluck and Pickle Ball. (There will be more about this and pictures on the LWP Blog in the days to come.) It was a fun evening bringing together the PVs and there Seattle area Supporters.
We could not be happier with how the week went. Thank you to every agency that we worked with, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and most importantly to the PVs who took the leap of faith and joined us for the week. We will be posting the volunteer’s reflections from the week in the days to come.

Another Sunny Day
What is this one hears about Seattle and rain? ย One is tempted to say that it is always sunny in Seattle. ย That is how it has seemed this week and today was no exception.
Today the volunteers worked side by side with volunteers from the King County branch of Habitat for Humanity. ย This week has allowed us to meet and work alongside other volunteers living and serving in Seattle. ย This is a bit different from our West Virginia and ย Brooklyn experiences. ย It has been wonderful.
Today, the volunteers divided into two groups. ย One worked on painting, the other on reassembling a home that had beenย dismantled. Home repair projects can be physically exhausting, butย exhilaratingย as well. Many of PV Volunteer will say that home repair allows one the opportunity to see immediate results from one’s efforts.
After spending the past couple of evenings taking in the sites of beautiful Seattle, tonight provided the volunteers with a much deserved night of rest and it was very much appreciated!

Both Sides Now
When many people think of Seattle, they think of the Space Needle, the mountains, and the rain. Of course, Seattle is much more complex than that. Today, the PVs got to see Seattle on a whole new level. The work day began the same way yesterday ended, at the community garden at Our Lady of Guadalope Church. From there, the volunteers went to Nickelsville. Nickelsville is “a self managed eco village in Seattle for up to 1,000 homeless people.” We encourage you to visit their website http://www.nickelsville.org/ to read more about this extraordinary place. We will have much more in the days ahead about our experience at Nickelsville, but for now, we will leave you with a few pictures from the day.

Living It Up in the Garden
Having worked yesterday serving food at a Seattle mission, today the PVs where on the other side of the food process. The volunteers spent their day preparing the land for a garden which in turn will produce the crops that will then be shared with the people of West Seattle and White Center. Our Lady of Guadalope Church, which is graciously hosting the PV Volunteers this week, is the home of a community garden where the harvest is given to food banks in the neighborhoods of West Seattle and White Center. Nothing beats fresh produce! How wonderful that the PVs can lend a hand to such a fantastic project.
The PVs ended their day in a most enjoyable way, relaxing by a nice fire on the shores of Alki Beach. If you look closely, you can see the mountains off in the distance. What a beautiful setting for the volunteers to reflect on their experiences from the day.
