“I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be honorable, to be compassionate. It is, after all, to matter: to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all.”

Leo C. Rosten

A new week and new adventures! We started off the week with two home repair sites with a lot of work needing to be done, so lots of volunteers at each site. We continued with the site in Cabin Creek that we have been working on the past couple of weeks. Most of the deck boards were installed, so it is almost complete. The young PVs did a fantastic job screwing all the boards down. Only railings and a small roof project to go!

Today we also started working on a porch in Oceana for a young family expecting their next child in a week. Talk about a deadline! Great progress was made today removing the old porch, starting to frame out the new porch, digging holes for the footings and getting everything moving for the week. Here too all the young PVs were kept busy with their various tasks. All in all it was a great beginning to the week.

Because there was so much good food made last week and there seemed to be an abundance of it, tonight we decided to have leftovers for dinner. Kind of a neat way to connect last week’s volunteers with this week’s volunteers.

Also a little unusual for the PVs, because of the late arrival of incoming volunteers over the weekend, we weren’t able to do commissioning before sending the volunteers out on jobsites. So, tonight we had our commissioning. Trust me, it won’t undo all the great work that was done today! At the end of commissioning we went around and shared a “New and a Good” for the day.
